Investigaci\u00f3n de C\u00e9lulas Madre de Maryland hab\u00eda otorgado $ 8.5 millones a doce instituciones, para veintinueve proyectos de investigaci\u00f3n, evaluando el uso de c\u00e9lulas madre para tratar enfermedades como enfermedades card\u00edacas, distrofia muscular, enfermedad de c\u00e9lulas falciformes y diabetes as\u00ed como otras condiciones. Seis compa\u00f1\u00edas y seis instituciones de investigaci\u00f3n, incluidas la Universidad Johns Hopkins y la Universidad de Maryland, recibir\u00e1n una parte del dinero de la subvenci\u00f3n.
